        The Renaissance was a cultural movement that existed roughly from the 14^th century to the 17^th; it started in Italy and later spread to all of Europe.  This time period was extremely important because the Dark Ages were ending and the world was entering a new time period. The word “renaissance” means rebirth, the rebirth of a new era.  Not only did this time period consist of financial growth it most importantly was an age in which artistic, social and scientific thoughts turned to a new direction. Paintings were no longer two-dimensional and artists started taking more liberty with their work. 

        Raffaello Sanzio also known as Raphael is an Italian painter during the Renaissance, he was born on April 6,1483 in Urbino, Italy.  Unlike many of the other famous artists during the Renaissance he was extremely productive running a workshop with many assistants. It is said that he has three phases of his work. His early work where his teacher was a major influence on him, The Florentine period where he lived in the city and then his last years where people say his best work was produced. Many of Raphaels' painting consisted of women and some of his most famous works of women consist of La Velata, La Fornarina (The Bakers Daughter), and La Muta (The Mute Women).

        The Mute Women is a painting of a women sitting down with her hands crossed with no expression to her face. This painting intrigued me and is definitely my favourite painting of his, because the subject has to expression it can relate to everyone. It also makes you wonder what Raphael would have been thinking when he gave her this expression. In my opinion this is his best painting, and that is why I chose The Mute Women for my project.

Michelle As "The Mute Women":
       Photoshop is not my strong point so I was not looking forward to doing this project. After working hard on the photo and messing up many times i finally got the end product I wanted. I really enjoy how it turned out and i think Michelle looks good as The Mute Women. The photo i used for this project was the same photo i used for the mixed lighting product. To take the photo I used my Canon Rebel T3 with the 18-55mm lens. 

The Journey..

For my photogram I used a necklace some rocks and some stuffing. The necklace and the rocks represent a path and the stuffing represents a storm. The meaning I was going for was that in life (the path) with will come faced with cross roads and obstacles (the storm) but you will have to push through it. I very very happy with the end result.

Summer Time

          This is a photograph of a dog in Toronto, he is the main subject. When I was looking through photos to do a jell medium I thought that this photograph would be a good fit. I wanted to do a jell medium because I found the process very interesting, the way the photo reflected onto the jell really intrigued me. I was extremely happy with the outcome of the photo, it reflected just how I wanted it to and captured all the details of the dog and the grass.

Straight Forward; Blue and White!

I enjoyed using this technique. I found it very interesting how it changed the blacks in the original photo to blue. I had to do this process many times because it never turned out the way I wanted it to. The subject is my dog, I took this photograph of her at home in our living room. I used my Canon Rebel T3 with the basic 18-55mm lens. I chose this photograph for this technique because I like how she is looking right into the camera and I thought it would look interesting to see the colours change from black to blue.

Be Yourself

In these photographs I asked Andie, Alicia and Michelle to be themselves and do whatever comes naturaly to them. I took these photographs with my Canon T3 with my 18 - 55mm lens. This is what they came up with.

 

In this photograph I have a good one to two ratio lighting. I have a light close to my subject on the left side of my photograph and then on the right, I have the light pushed further back. Both streaming in on an angle towards my subject. The shutter speed was 1/25 and my aperture was at f/4.5.

 In this photograph I did not move the lights, I left them the same as the photograph above, but I added a new light source. The extra light source is coming from the left side of the photograph coming in straight and hitting Alicias face right on. The shutter speed was 1/60 with an aperture of f/5.

In this photograph I have the same lighting as the first photo with Andie in it. I did however add another light source, I added a fill light. With the lights in the room on, it gave the photo a brighter look to it which i enjoy. For this photograph i used a shutter speed of 1/30 and an aperture of f/4.5.

DON'T FALL!

       This photograph is of my sister Alyssa sitting on a bench. This picture is breaking the rules of balance, she is sitting at the very edge of the bench on the right side of the photo with nothing else on the left side. It looks like the bench is going to tip at any moment. I tested it with two people side by side at the right side but it did not look as off-balanced as this one. I shot this photograph with my Canon Rebel T3 with the basic 18-55 mm lens with a shutter speed of 1/250 and an aperture of 10. I enjoyed this assignment because it gave me a chance to break all the rule Mr.Burton stressed about last year.

Meow.

I enjoyed painting with light because this is not something I normally get the chance to experiment with. At first it was really hard to get the photograph to look like I wanted to because I could not see where I was shining the lights, I also had to keep moving around to make sure I did not show up in the photograph. We were working in the dark so before I could even start making Michelle into a cat I had to shine her in, I then painted in the whiskers and ears and then added the birds that she is looking at ready to chase. To take this photograph i used my Canon Rebel T3 with a shutter speed of 30 and an f-stop of (dont know). I had a lot of fun playing around with this and making my model Michelle into a lot of funny things.

Sun-kissed

I used mixed lighting for this photography. Using sunlight and a disk to reflect another light source on my model Michelle as well as the overhead lighting from the school lights, lights this photo beautifully, and compliments my model. I used a shutter speed of 1/60 and an f-stop of (need to figure out). I took this photo with my Canon Rebel T3 with the basic lens of 18-55 mm. Michelle has a very innocent look to her in the photograph that I really enjoyed and happy I captured it. I got to play around a lot with mixed lighting and I really enjoyed this part of the assignment.

Hello, My Name Is...

I found this assignment extremely tricky for me. My names has a slot of repetitive letters so I had to find multiple objects that resembled the same letter. The easier letters for me to find were E's and S's, I managed to have a lot of objects resembling those objects throughout my house, V's were also easy to find. The letters that I had to look everywhere for were N's and R's. I found my first N walking about the school and looked up to the ceiling in the cafeteria and saw an N, when I found this I thought for sure N would be the easiest one to find, but i was wrong. I managed to find an N in the branches fallen on the floor after a wind storm. This assignment has made me more aware of my surroundings, after this assignment i found letters all over the place.

Who Inspires Me

Eric Ryan Anderson is my favourite photographer, his is very talented and inspirational. The energy and emotion he captures in his photographs catches my attention and keeps me intrigued. I spent hours looking through his portfolio amazed by his talent. I am not the only one who enjoys his work, he has many fans and has been published in many places ( Italian Vanity Fair, T:New York Times Style and others). I hope you all get a chance you look at his photographs and maybe even be as inspired as i am after viewing them. Enjoy.
